Get to know Neurosurgeon Dr. Massoud Hertzel Soumekh, who serves patients throughout the State of California.

In practice since 1983, Dr. Soumekh is an accomplished neurosurgeon who is affiliated with Sharp HealthCare. More specifically, he can be found on staff at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, Sharp Grossmont Hospital (La Mesa), and Sharp Memorial Hospital (San Diego) in California. “I always hold the patient’s care and treatment in the utmost regard. I will always put the patient’s best interest first and provide honest and complete care at all times” expressed the doctor.  His medical interests include anterior laminectomy, back evaluation and treatment, biopsy, brain tumor, cerebral bleed, laminectomy, minimally invasive spine surgery, nerve repair, spinal cord stimulator, spinal fusion, spine surgery, and stereotactic intracranial surgery. Back in 1974, Dr. Soumekh earned his medical degree from the Tehran University of Medical Sciences, School of Medicine in Iran. Upon graduation, he went on to perform his residency in neurosurgery at the Wayne State University School of Medicine, followed by his fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.

M. Hertzel Soumekh, MD, FACS, attended the Tehran University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iram, and received his medical degree in 1974. Prior to relocating to the United States, he trained at the Hospital of Saint Raphael, Queen Pahlavi Heart Foundation, and the University of Teheran (Iran). Furthermore, he conducted his internship (1975 – 1976) at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT, and his residency in neurosurgery (1976 – 1981) at the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, MI. In addition, he completed his fellowship training at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa, Canada. Dr. Soumekh received board certification in neurosurgery from the American Board of Neurological Surgery. Moreover, he attained fellowship of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), having met the standards and guidelines required of the nation’s leading surgeons. He his spare time to his family and gardening. Dr. Soumekh is fluent in Farsi and Spanish in addition to English and is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
